Biljana was born in Vinkovci (Croatia) in 1967. She graduated painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. She shot her first film in 1992, and left to further her studies at the European Film College in Denmark in 1997, continuing filmmaking professionally. Works for TV and independently.

In 2001 she finished the project she had been preparing for nine years - the documentary The Boy Who Rushed, the story of her search with her family for her brother who went missing during the recent war in Croatia. The film has major domestic and international awards.
